It has been an exciting week on Logos Hope as 5 years of hard work have culminated in the surveyors from Lloyds Register spending the week onboard undertaking the Passenger Ship Safety Certificate surveys.
There have been many different tests including examining the integrity of our fire protection zones, checking all the fire doors close properly, all the smoke and fire detection systems work, having an unanounced fire and muster drill etc. Although a number of issues came up, overall the surveyors appear to have been pleased with what they have found.
There are a few jobs that still need to be done, involving fitting fire flaps into ventilation pipes in different parts of the ship - we are currently waiting to hear if we will be able to get the PSSC before this work is completed. It will take a few weeks to get these flaps onboard and installed.
Unfortunately, the ship continues to contain a lot of flu bugs, and a number of those who have come onboard this week for the surveys have gone sick, including our captain - who has interupted an extended break to be here, and several of the surveyors.
Next week we have audits of our ISM(International Safety Management) and ISPS (International Ship and Port Security) systems and processes. We all have to be on our toes as any one of us could be asked questions about safety or security issues.
We are really hoping that by the end of next week, the surveyor will be able to return and give us the PSSC. We had hoped to have the new generator running this week for them to inspect but that will now only take place next week.
Please keep praying that we can get approved to sail soon and be able to undertake our maiden voyage ( with all staff and crew onboard) before the end of February.
At the same time as all this is happening, we have a group of new recruits going through their induction to the ship at what we call PST - pre ship training.
Next Tuesday, they will join us here on Logos Hope and many will then take part in the Basic Safety Training which Heather and I are also going to do as we have never done it before.
Watch this space for more details on that.
No picture this week but here are some links to some video's that show more of life onboard.
The first few are about some of the departments onboard, to help the new recruits decide where they would like to work.
Finally a video about the school
Enjoy
