Looking back on 2 months living in Germany, it has been an interesting experience for us as a family. Here are a few reflections on those weeks.
- Food shopping and not knowing what any of the labels mean or where on earth the bacon is. And who would have thought to look for the margarine on the grocery shelves?
- Chasing rabbits around the local streets and watching neighbours who you don't know trying to catch one of the rabbits you are supposed to be looking after in a laundry basket.
- Going to church which is all in German and finding that there is no Sunday School for the kids so one of you just ends up spending the whole service trying to keep the kids amused out back.
- Having some great trips out including a river cruise on the Neckar, Heidelberg (x2), Bad Wimpfen, Playmobil Land, an airshow where the most exciting thing was a volunteer parachutist twisting their ankle on landing and getting stretchered to an ambulance.
- The outdoor pool at Mosbach where many a sunny day was spent by Heather and the kids enjoying the water slide and diving boards.
- Kara learning to ride her bike without stabilizers and Kara jumping off the high diving board.
- Steve working in the ships office where the kids can come at lunch time and play on the swings in the garden.
- Liam and Kara both achieving swimming certificates at the local pool. ( Kara - Seahorse for swimming 25m, Liam Pirate for swimming 100m)
- A great visit from our friend Karen from Edinburgh - the worst 3 days of weather of the whole summer occurred during her visit.
- 2 trips by Steve down to Logos Hope in Trogir to work on organising the offices and creating storage space on board.
- Living in a 5 storey house for 6 weeks
- Having a couple of great team bbq's
Liam and Kara getting their swimming certificates
